A Complete Guide to Hello Fresh Brown Sugar Pork Chops

This recipe is my first experience making pork chops. Yes, you read that absolutely correct. Some members of my family were raised as Seven Day Adventist, so pork or pig was not commonly ate because of religious beliefs. That belief or practice carried into my house hold. The only time that I had pork is when Chinese pork was ordered or we had pork baby back ribs from the grocery store.
No, I am not bringing Pork Chops into every day diet. One, pig is more expensive than chicken or turkey, at least where I live. Second, as I told my friend en Español, mucha grasa. The pork provided by HelloFresh had 10 grams of fat per 6 ounces. eep. Yeah, this will be the time of meat we will have on occasion because we all need a change every now and again.
The ingredients I received for this recipe are:
• 12 ounces of potatoes
• 1 apple
• 12 ounces of pork chops
• 2 tablespoons of sour cream
• 6 ounce of green beans
• 2 units of scallions
• 1 unit of chicken stock concentrate
• 10.80 grams of McCormick Grill Mates Brown Sugar Bourbon Seasoning
The ingredients I had to supply were olive oil, vegetable oil, sugar, butter, salt, and pepper. Of course, if you read my posts, you know that I omit the oils, sugar, and 9 outta 10 times the salt. For this recipe, I used the butter and salt they recommended. I felt a little depleted in electrolytes so I added in the salt only for today. I use olive oil spray whenever a recipe suggests to use oil. It is a health hack that I have used since I started watching what I eat way back in the day of 2013.
The Cooking Process
As always, the recipe had six steps to follow to create this delicious meal.
1. Wash and dice potatoes, salt the water, cook for 15-20 minutes.
2. Season pork and cook on stove top.
3. Season green beans and pop in the oven.
4. Cook apples and scallions on stove top in the same pan as you used for pork.
5. Mash potatoes until smooth.
6. Serve.
Well me not being a cook or one who cooks all the time, I did not have a potato masher. Something simple, but to be fair potato carbs are not really a thing. I used my blender and worked probably better than me mashing my potatoes by hand.
Our Ratings
Now on to the ratings that either tell you to not pick this meal or pick this meal decide to do Hello Fresh. Well let me tell you, this is a meal you definitely need to add in to your box. If you got the option.
Shayne rates this meal a 10 outta 10. Yes, you read that correctly, the man that I love forever is willing to give this meal a 10 outta 10. The mashed potatoes he said were great. (The potatoes were less solid than I would prefer, Shayne still liked them that is all that mattered) The green beans unlike the broccoli roasted amazingly in the oven. The green beans were crisp as you bit into them. You could also taste the flavor of salt, pepper, and olive oil. Sprayed a lot of olive oil for that reason. The pork chop seasoning with apple pan sauce was so great. I love that seasoning mix and buttery apples on top were the perfect addition to these pork chops. He rated everything 10 outta 10.
My rating is going to be a prep rating and a partial eating one yet again. The prep process was very easy. I only had to cut potatoes, apple, and scallions. The cut ingredients also did not have to be in tiny tiny pieces. Makes the process easy. Green beans went in the oven. Pork was already portioned. I do feel like the prep time and cook time was adequate. Fun to work with as well.
The eating rating is again partial. I am rating the beans, the apple sauce, and the pork cutlet. Cause your girl does not eat carbs, white, starchy, carbs. No potatoes for this girl unless I am sick and need food. For once in a blue moon, I actually agree with Shayne about the rating for this recipe. While eating the meal, I legitimately said, “You are so right, this tastes amazing.” Pork is a hit or miss for me. Some pork I had is not great, some pork is absolutely delicious (like this one) I love cooked apples on anything. Spiced, buttery, or sugared. Perfect complement for this pork’s seasoning. Finally, the green beans ugh. I wish the recipe came with more. Because I needed more vegetables, I cooked more broccoli so balance out the portions. What I did eat, I rate the recipe a 10 outta 10! YASSSSSSS. Frickin finally.
Our Fresh Financials
After looking at this recipe, this is an All-American type of meal. Pork chops I do know are staple in most house holds with meat. My knowledge of how to cook pork is limited. Very limited. This is when cooking is also a great endeavor. You get to learn on how to make different types of food, you would not normally attempt to do. In addition, this flavoring can be used on different meats. Saving money in that regard. I buy all the meats like chicken, pork, maybe turkey? and use this seasoning. BAM. Not needing to buy specific sauces for each meat. Saving money in that way.
This is the second week pricing of HelloFresh was $77.89. We did use a promotion code from Hulu. (Hulu80) apparently that saves 80 dollars on month’s worth of orders. If you are trying something new, you might as well try the product at the cheapest possible.
For the week, the cost was $38.50 give or take per person. Went up a whole five dollars. Shayne and I per day are paying around $7.70 so went up $1.10. Could you get any cheaper? The answer is yes. Look at last weeks recipe posts. Though, the reactions to the recipes were not as great. So cheaper meals, but yet the reactions and ratings were lower. Do the two go hand in hand? Let us find out for this week.
By going through Hello Fresh, we paid $15.40 for two portions of Brown Sugar Bourbon Pork Chops. Paying an extra three dollars for our portions. However, this recipe is definitely a 10 outta 10. Worth the extra money? Survey says that is a whole-hearted yes.
Well because of the great rating this recipe received, I will show you the pricing for meal buying the ingredients in the store like at Walmart. The All-American store for the All-American recipe.

Under 20 dollars for this recipe is not so bad. Buying the ingredients on your own is a dollar and change more expensive than buying from Hello Fresh. However because of how amazing this recipe is, I would recommend buying the pork in bulk from Costco, Sam’s Club, BJ’s, or any other club store. You will want to make this recipe over and over again. We will just say you need to meal prep this recipe to suffice all your pork and sweet meat needs.
Because of how American and simple tasting this food is, this is a compatible recipe with any other kind of seasoned vegetable you would like. If you want to do sweet potatoes instead of regular, the meat would go well. That is the best kind of versatile protein. You get your seasoned meat, and you can pair what components you would like. Low Carb. High Carb. Extra salt. No Salt. Extra butter. No butter. You get the idea.
Outcomes and Recommendations
These are the only tips I would give when making this recipe. One, if you want super creamy mashed potatoes, I would recommend whipping your potatoes in the blender. Second, I would recommend soaking the potatoes ahead of time so you can cut down on the cook time. Finally, I would have extra green beans on hand because the seasoning with these beans are the best.
